8/31/2007 有一种毒药叫成功
8/17/2007 The DVDs, Histories, and Struggles.Received the DVD box-sets <井冈山> and <长征> from Mom and Dad, respectively. Accepted with pleasure. Yet, this is somehow surprising. In every aspect, life is a spiral. 20 years ago, I was trained to love the "official" history, sampled at an outrageously low temporal sampling rate and carefully filtered. I was even able to sing tens of political songs at that age, none of which were supposed to be popular among or even comprehended by kids. There was me, however, singing those pieces again and again upon the requests from adults. Well, when they were created, those songs were definitely Chinese Rock 'n' Roll and truly political music in the Western sense, which is supposed to be about change (or the colorized word "revolution"). Still, there was at least one piece of message that has been useful to me all the time: my life is the result of thousands of deaths. Ironically, most functions of these torches had been worn out when passed on to our hands, to my slim vocal tract. As the ego sprouted, I halted the purposeless singing. Much like switching to the blog territories from Sina, I ran away from the clueless lyrics, at the sight of stuff like U2 and Guns & Roses (of course, after ditching the even more clueless 80's pop). The emotional burst leads kids to rebellions and their own isolated spiritual constructions. Fortunately, most parents did their jobs in advance to frame their kids' minds with basic machineries, so that they wouldn't be completely alone during the constructions. In my darkest hours, the trust in music and arts was the best gift from them, the best machine that I could run in myself. Many initial programs that they wrote were outdated and removed nevertheless. Now, the construction is still in progress, with a functional watch tower erected, on which you can't help but see all the landscapes in terms of your own position, the current one and that in the future. Meanwhile, the country grows along with us. Despite the gross productions, the crawling developments, and the banal performances (what the hell is left?), which are quite a challenge to your patience throughout the course, <井冈山> and the other series from the pipeline turn out to be produced at a much higher sampling rate, with medium granularity to see the obscured conflicts in our rusty textbooks. 毛毛 was not hit in the ass in merely those well-known cases but with much more and drastically worse lucks along the road. The conflicts between academia (共产国际) and the industry (毛毛) has been there a long time now. It is stunning to see how many people start from, then depart from, and finally return to this controversial history to seek ultimate lessons in their lives, because it is not about the inevitable consequences or the evitable ones, not about the truth or the censorship. It all comes back to such a question that one may ask oneself: under such self-contained settings (i.e., whether any part of the story was true or not), how could one turn the faintest sparkle into an unstoppable flame. I hope this spiral of mine is going up. 8/13/2007 被幽默感不知道英语里有没有这个词.
Some say it's the hardest to perfectly duplicate the simplest. This is a two-folded case. 1st, we are reluctant to decompose the intuitive. 2nd, it's usually a torture not to incorporate our "intelligence" into everything we do, just to delight and to impress, instead of getting things done. Yes, it comes out of fear, out of self-doubt. 8/1/2007 The ways to say goodbye to printer jams..One is to computerize paper (or to paperize a computer). This means to make a piece of paper writable and the content on it editable with a computer or more accurately, an "editor" other than the traditional destructive editing tools (pens, typewriters, and the traditional press system). Problems include the power supply, reliability and persistency, physical size control, foldability, and so on. But to think about printer jams... I still wanna vote to the idea. General computer UI revolution represented by Multi-touch can probably be a way to get around the difficulty involved in document management of individual systems. But to virtualize the entire press paradigm and eliminate the boundary between digital pulications/documents and their carriers, there is a long way to go. Power supply must be the most crucial challenge of all. The project would become much more plausible if the native chemical energy in the paper material could be utilized on the fly, but thermal energy is never friendly in such applications. Another way... forget about this whole digital paradigm. Find a smart way, probably chemical, to simplify the "undo" on traditional paper. One thing I can think of is to make the particle coupling between the carbon (or whatever chemical carrier of content) and paper controllable, e.g., the coupling should be loose during the production stage of content verification or revision and then be set to a firm state at the stage of archiving. In this way, the eraser could be much less destructive, meaning that we have minimum hard material cost during the editing phase. In other words, what we need is to control the coupling between the editing material and the storage material throughout the lifetime of a document. Another thing is to make paper kneaded by jamming printers easily reusable, that is, to somehow reset a creased piece of paper to its original flat version. This may require an operable rigidity of paper. ANYWAYS, what I really wanted to say: I HATE PRINTERS, ALL OF THEM! |
