- Ironically, this cover song by At17 was the only
one that can wake me up from 黄耀明's most original works. A sense
of dedication was outspoken in the shy juvenile vocal
here. To me, attraction has long been missing in Cantonese market. Now
I think I got some homework to do.
- The rest of the list is just randomly selected from my
recent playlists.
I used to think of audio/visual arts as dialects of the same language.
Somehow the necessary restriction to this idea was gradually loosened to
the degree that I once considered the digi-cam people artists in their own
rights, and those nameless momentarily-captured landscapes or whatever,
art. They may be. But truly, photography or painting is more of a
process of decoding and reorganizing high-level experience,
whereas sonic art often is contrived purely "out of one's mind". Even
in the category of art of time, it is still harder for music
than movie to be a brain child born with its full multi-layered body.
Then what? I more and more believe that people who are fluent in or
attracted to musical/audio languages must have some unparalleled
sensitivity and moral quality that's missing in the broad
range of visual-only people. Doesn't have to be good or bad. Over the
years, I rediscovered my mental incompatibility with audio-less
individuals time and again. We can work together but unnecessarily with
each other. The key to the mystery may go all the way back
to anthropology, sociology, psychology, biology,
chemistry, physics.....Accusations can be pointed back to the subject;
but the phenomena are not just phenomenal. I kinda accepted that
preferred perception channel is pretty much a ruler against which the
possible depth of the involvement with a person can be measured. Within
the audio-weighted crowd, refined subdivisions can still be made
according to the sensitivity measure. This is not to say that the
animal components override the rational ones. On the contrary,
ego-centric tendency plays well into the game. Well..... what am I
talking about...?

It's been killing me to have billions of xruns whenever firing up Jack after I switched to -rt kernel.
The trick turns out to be the buffer "period", which is specific to hardware. For Intel hardware, switching it from the default value 2 to 3 eliminates all the xruns on my laptop.

Night.
Me, walking along the left side of the street.
Human noise casting from three yards ahead.
A couple is having a fight, ....
in French, of course.
Something is unusual.
As the distance diminishes between us,
no one would fail to notice that the man, instead of the woman, is the complainer the whole time.
He leads in the fight,
and maybe as a result, he leads the way as well;
the woman just follows him like a puppy (missile?) and murmurs her weak response.
I couldn't help giving the man a glimpse as I pass him by,
with awe.
"Hey, what are you looking at, for crying out loud?"
Ok, a typical bilingual Montrealer; I get that...
"Listen! It's M-Y- birthday and I cannot work 40 minutes overtime with my boss in the afternoon???"
Ah... kinda cute topic; I like it.
Then suddenly we have a little more input from the lady, and
the flame sways entirely from French to English, even hotter,
in a terrible French accent though.
They are trying to get me into the game,
and hopefully make me an ally to one of them.
"I'm sorry", that's all I could say as I turn around 180 degree clockwise and
then another 180 degree clockwise to resume my pace.
leaving the bilingual quarrel filling the serenity of the street.
Isn't it lovely to live here when a quarrel can turn into something
technically challenging and pleasing to an outsider?
